Istan is an ancient village lying in the mountains above the reservoir known as Embalse de la Concepcion. White washed houses line the winding narrow streets of the settlement which was founded in the 9th Century by the Moors. There is a Moorish tower with an arch of the same period. Below the village is the Ermita de San Miguel and a pilgrimage takes place to the hermitage every year in September.
