La Fortaleza

Located at the foot of the mountain La Fortaleza, Chipude was once an important town on La Gomera Island. There is a 16th Century church in the main square and you can buy local pottery here. A trek can be made to the summit of La Fortaleza which, at 1,243 metres above sea level, was an important place of worship for the Guanche people. On clear days there are fine views of Garanjonay National Park.
