Las Medula is a strange landscape that was formed by the Romans extracting gold. It is the largest gold mine that was worked by the Romans and they extracted about 800,000 kilograms of gold from the mine. Las Medulas can be visited and there are several routes which visitors can take to see the channels where the gold was washed as well as other viewpoints. In the area are many chestnut trees and heather and it is home to wild boar and wolf. There are many walking and cycling opportunities.
