The Praza Maior is a large, attractive square situated within the old city walls. At one end is the Town Hall which was built during the 18th Century in the Galician Baroque style. The clock tower was added in the 19th Century. Around the square are more elegant buildings as well as restaurants and cafes. In the centre is a bandstand and there is a lawn as well as flowers and shrubs. You will also see a bronze statue to the early 19th Century poet Luis Pimentel.
