Torre del Conde was one of the first buildings to be built on La Gomera after the Spanish conquest in the mid 15th Century. Beatriz de Bobadilla barricaded herself in the fort after her husband the governor Hernan Peraza the Younger was killed. He had been discovered having an affair with a Gomeran princess. After help arrived from Gran Canaria, almost all the male Guanches on the island were put to death. Inside the tower are maps and other items about the island`s history.
