The Alameda is a grand, long square which has been built on the site of the San Domingo`s Convent former orchard. On one side are trees and on the other are large, important buildings. You cannnot miss the 19th Century Palacio de la Diputacion where exhibitions are held. In the square are monuments relating to naval achievements including one commemorating the Napoleonic War victory of 1808. There is also a statue to Christopher Columbus.
