Lying to the east of Nerja, Maro is a pretty village with whitewashed houses and views out to the sea. There are several tapas bars and restaurants and close to the Balcon de Maro stand the 17th Century Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de las Maravillas and ruins of an old sugar factory. Between the village and Nerja is the impressive 19th Century Aguila Aqueduct which was built to carry water to the sugar works. Near it lies a Roman road.
