Benedormiens Castle was built in the 11th Century and the fortress perched on a hill protected the area from coastal attack. During a local rebellion in 1462 it was burnt and an accidental explosion almost completely destroyed the castle in 1879. Much restoration work has been carried out and archaeolgical investigations have revealed some interesting finds. It is now a centre for art exhibitions and other events relating to the culture of the town.
