Montilla is known for its dry white wine and the Alvear winery goes back to the early 18th Century. It is the largest and oldest in Montilla. The wine is made by using the same methods as sherry but Pedro Ximenez grapes are used for making the wine. Because of their sweetness, unlike the grapes used in making sherry, the wine has a high alchol content and does not need fortifying. Guided tours with tasting sessions are available here if booked in advance.
