Puente de Segovia is a fine granite bridge with nine arches spanning the River Manzanares. Felipe 11 commissioned the architect Juan de Herrera to build it in the late 16th Century. The bridge was an importance entrance to Madrid from Segovia and El Escorial. It was rebuilt in 1682 by Manuel Jose del Olmo. The river has its source in the Sierra de Guadarrama and there are now a number of dams.
