Cabrera Island lies eleven miles off the coast of Mallorca and can be reached by boat from Colonia de Sant Jordi during the summer months. It is now a National Park and its plants, wildlife and surrounding marine life are protected. On the boat trip many species of birds may be spotted. The island is said to be the birthplace of Hannibal and during the Napoleonic War it was a prison camp. Thousands died of hunger and disease. On the island, you can visit the 14th Century castle and a small museum near the jetty.
