Romantic Castell de Bellver was built in the 14th Century as a summer palace for Jaime 11. Soon afterwards it became a prison and was used for this purpose until 1915. The fortress is situated on a wooded hill overlooking Palma Bay, from where there are great views. It has an unusual circular design with a separate keep. There is a beautiful courtyard with Romanesque and Gothic arches and statues. In the museum are ancient, Arab and Spanish artefacts.
