The Castillo de Javier was the birthplace of San Francisco Javier, who was the patron saint of Navarra. Born in 1506, he was also a missionary and one of the founders of the Jesuit Order. The castle has now been restored and it is possible to visit the rooms used by the saint. There is a museum in the keep telling the story of his life. Also of interest are the murals of skeletons in the oratory.
