The Cuevas de Nerja are a series of caverns that were inhabited in prehistoric times. They were discovered in the mid 20th Century and wall paintings, weapons and jewellery were found in them. There are also spectacular stalagmites and stalacites. Only some of the caverns are open to the public. One large cavern has been turned into an auditorium and concerts are held there during the summmer.
