Local historian Joan Hernandez Mora donated his collection of historical documents and artefacts to the city of Mao when he died in 1975. He was also an author and teacher, and he wanted to preserve the island`s heritage. The collection, comprising antique furniture, books, paintings, engravings and maps, is now a small museum. The exhibits offer an insight into Menorcan history during the 18th and 19th centuries, a period when, at various times, the island was ruled by the British.
