The Monasterio de Sant Maria de El Paular was originally a Carthusian monastery. Founded at the end of the 14th Century, it was built in the Gothic style. Since then Renaissance features have been added. It was abandoned in the early 19th Century but in 1950 the monastery was restored and the complex is now home to a Benedictine monastery and a private hotel. The church has a beautiful 15th Century altarpiece and a cloister with Mudejar vaulting.
