The Benedictine Monastery of Sant Maria lies across an old bridge in the village of Gerri De La Sal. It was founded in AD 807 but most of the present building was built in the 12th Century. Some salt pans can be seen near the river. The village is located near the impressive gorge of the Congost de Collegats and the part known as L`Argenteria inspired Gaudi in making his designs for the La Pedrera building in Barcelona.
