The Iglesia de las Calatravas is a pink brick building with sculptures and a fine dome. Inside is a large, splendid, baroque altarpiece by Jose Churriguera. The Churriguera family were architects known for their extravagant baroque style. The church was once part of the 17th Century convent of the military order of the Comendadoras of Calatrava, knights who went on the Crusades. The convent was built by their wives.
