The Iglesia de San Jose was once part of a Carmelite convent which was founded in the early 17th Century. On the facade is a statue of the Virgen del Carmen. Rebuilt in the 18th Century, the church has a neo-classical main altar and interesting carvings in the baroque side chapels. Some of these are by the French sculptor Robert Michel who carved the lions in the Plaza del Cibeles. The convent was demolished in the mid 19th Century.
