La Mola Fortress
Mao, Menorca Island - Spain

Map

La Mola Fortress guards the entrance to Mao Harbour and, named after Isabel 11, it was built in 1848 after Sant Felip Fort was destroyed. La Mola Fort was used as a high security prison during the Civil War. No longer occupied by the army, it is now a tourist atraction. Allow plenty of time to explore the walls and tunnels with their huge cannons and gunpowder stores.
