Manzanares el Real is dominated by a 15th Century castle which was built on the site of an earlier chapel. Although the castle retains military features such as turrets, it has been modified into a residential palace for the Dukes of Infantado by the architect Juan Guas. He added a gallery on the south side and placed stones shaped like cannon balls on the tower. The interior of the castle has been restored and it is open to visits.
