Maspalomas is known for its magnificent sand dunes which are part of a nature reserve. The dunes comprise of over 300 acres of sand, made up of finely ground shells and formed into little hills and valleys. There is a small information centre explaining the origin of the dunes, the conservation and wildlife. Near the centre is a viewpoint and it is the starting point for guided walks. Camel rides start from the eastern side of the dunes.
