Melilla`s Municipal Museum is housed in the Torre de la Vela which is in the city`s fortified area. There are five sections and in the prehistoric area are prehistoric artefacts including stone axes and arrowheads. One of the most important sections is the exhibition devoted to ancient coins as some of them are from Phoenician times. There are also classical pieces found at a necropolis, and medieval ceramics. The fifth section is devoted to the modern age.
