The Mining Museum is housed in a former miners` hospital and here you can discover the archaeology and geology of the area as well as the history of mining. The copper mines date from the Romans but the main period of operation began in the late 19th Century when British investors founded the Rio Tinto Company and the town. At one time they employed over 10,000 workers. As well as archaeological finds you can see photographs, engines and scale models.
