The Monastery of San Salvador de Leyre is situated in a beautiful position in the hills above Sanguesa. The first abbey was built in the nineth Century and it was an important centre for the kings of Navarra. Later, the monastery declined and it was abandoned in the 19th Century, but later restored by the Benedictines. The west portal of the church and the crypt have Romanesque carvings. During the services you can hear the monks` Gregorian chant.
