The Fuente Mora is a restored fountain in the old Mojacar Pueblo which lies inland and goes back to Iberian times. The settlement was later occupied by the Moors but fell to the Catholic Monarchs in 1488. On the fountain is an inscription recording the plea made by Alavez, the last Moorish ruler of the town, to allow the Muslims of Mojacar to remain and keep their customs. The wish was granted, although things changed during the Inquisition.
