Muralla Arabe is all that remains from the time when Madrid was occupied by the Moors. It stands south of the Catedral de la Almudena, and it was probably one of the gateways into Madrid. The wall was discovered during excavations in 1953, and it consists of a flintstone wall beside the Parque del Emir Mohamed 1. The park takes its name from the Moorish leader of Madrid, the city`s mame in Arabic being Mayrit.
