Housing an impressive collection of Spanish, Flemish and Italian paintings, the Prado Museum is one of the best in Europe. The neo-classical building was built in 1785 and it opened in the early 19th Century to display the royal collection of art. The Spanish collection ranges from the 12th to the 19th Century, and includes many rooms of works by Goya, Velazquez and El Greco. There are paintings by other Spanish artists, and outstanding Flemish collections,including works by Bosch and Rubens. Several rooms are devoted to Italian artists.
