The Municipal Museum is housed in an 18th Century building originally built as a poorhouse and orphanage. Two hundred years later, part of it was demolished, but the facade, courtyard and chapel were saved, including the splendid Baroque doorway. The museum houses a large collection of documents, paintings, engravings and sculptures. Maps illustrate how Madrid has changed over the centuries. The star exhibit is the huge scale model of Madrid made in 1830 by Leon Gil Palacio.
