The Museo de America houses a large collection of artefacts from the Americas, some of them being from the time of the conquistadors. In the collection, housed on two floors, are gold ornaments from Columbia, textiles from Peru and Chile, Spanish engravings and maps. Of special interest is the Columbian Treasure of Los Quimbayas. One of the most interesting exhibits is the rare Codice Tro cortesiano, a rare 112 page manuscript illustrated with hieroglyphics depicting scenes of Mayan everyday life.
