The ancient town of Niebla is completely surrounded by high red ochre walls which are over one mile long. It is protected by fifty towers and five gateways which are thought to be Roman in origin but they mostly date from the Moorish period. Now a designated Historic and Artistic Monument, the town goes back to the time of the Phoenicians and it later became the capital of the last Moorish King of Lebla.
