The Observatorio Astronomico dates from the late 18th Century when it was designed by Juan de Villanueva in the Neo-classical style. The building was used as a barracks during the French occupation and some rebuilding took place afterwards. It has slit windows which were for the use of telescopes. In a room open to the public, visitors can see an exhibition of 18th and 19th Century telescopes.
