The Cathedral of Santa Maria was built during the 14th and 15th centuries on the foundations of an earlier church. Mainly Gothic in style, the cathedral has two towers, whilst the neo-classical west front was built in the 18th Century by Ventura Rodriguez. Inside are the alabaster tombs of King Carlos 111 and his wife. There is a fine altarpiece of Saint Thomas by Caparroso. The beautiful Gothic cloister has trefoiled arches and highly decorated doors.
