This extensive, beautiful, historic park is a popular place for relaxation,and it has an artificial lake where rowing boats can be hired. Felipe 1V had his palace here in the early 17th Century but it was destroyed during the Napoleonic War. The park was opened to the public in 1869. One of its many features is the statue of Alfonso X11 beside the lake. The lakeside is often frequented by buskers, artists and fortune tellers. There are pavilions where exhibitions are held and flower gardens.
