The Placa Major is a popular, pedestrianised square with several cafes that have outdoor tables. The square was laid out in the 1820s on the site of the demolished headquarters of the Inquisition and it became a fresh food market until the 1950s. There is a portico around the perimeter and in the centre are stalls selling handicrafts. Live entertaiment often takes place in the square.
