The Plaza de Colon is a large square dedicated to Christopher Columbus. There are many important buildings surrounding it, including the National Library and Archaeology Museum. The most interesting feature is the neo-gothic column with Christopher Columbus on top and with carved reliefs recording his discoveries. This monument was built in 1885 and there is a more recent creation of shapes in the square with inscriptions about the explorer`s journey to America.
