One of the busiest squares in Madrid is the Plaza de Espana. In the centre is a monument to Miguel de Cervantes, and at the writer`s feet are the figures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. The square was the location of military barracks until they were demolished in the 19th Century. The massive concrete buildings Edifico Espana and Torre de Madrid dominate the square. They were built in the mid 20th Century.
