The Plaza del Callao takes its name from a naval battle that took place in 1886 off Callao in Peru. The square is known for the numerous cinemas that are situated here, many of which are in the Art Deco style. One of the most attractive is the Capitol which was built in 1933. Some of the cinemas have late night performances which begin after midnight.
