The Plaza del Dos de Mayo lies at the centre of the Barrio de Maravillas district, also known as Malasana. It was in this historical area that a stand was made against Napoleon`s troops. Nowadays there are cobbled streets, fountains and trees and many writers, artists and antique dealers live here. There are several beautiful, old churches with oil paintings and frescoes inside. The area is also known for its vibrant nightlife.
