The Puerta de Toledo is a triumphal arch that dates from the early 19th Century. The order for its construction was made by French born Joseph Bonaparte after he was made King of Spain by his brother Napoleon. After a short reign, he fled Spain when Fernando V11 became king. The arch was not completed until 1827 and then it was dedicated to Fernando V11. On top of the gate are sculptures representing allegorical figures and the arts.
