Puigcerda lies close to the French border with beautiful views of the Cerdanya Valley, the largest valley in the Pyrennes. Cerdanya and Cerdagne in France were once a single country but it was split in two by the Treaty of the Pyrennes. The town was damaged in the Civil War but 14th Century murals remain in the Gothic Church of Sant Domenec, and the 17th Century tower of the Church of Santa Maria also survives.
