The Romea Theatre is named after Julian Romea, a 19th Century actor from Murcia. This splendid building was constructed in the 1860s by Manuel Molini on the site of a former convent. It suffered fire damage twice and had to be rebuilt. Restored in 1985, the theatre is in the Neo-classical amd Modernist styles, and above the main door are busts of Mozart, Beethoven and Listz. Inside is a gorgeous ceiling to Julian Romea. The theatre is known for its excellent acoustics.
