Petra was the birthplace of Fray Junipero Serra who trained as a priest and went to America where he founded missions in California. He was born on 24 November 1713 and he was brought up in a house near the museum. There is an exhibition devoted to his life and work. On display are models of the missions he established in America as well as paintings, photographs and other memorabilia.
