Santa Pau is a beautiful village and its centre has changed little since the Middle Ages. The village is a medieval enclosure and inside are squares surrounded with houses that have low wooden balconies. The Gothic church of Santa Maria was built in the 15th century and there is a castle. A mirador offers panoramic views. Santa Pau can be reached by bus or on foot from Olot. The walk goes through beech woods and passes volcanic hills.
