The Teatro de la Zarzuela is the best place to watch Zarzuela, Madrid`s own kind of comic opera. It is also a venue for dance. The building dates from the mid 19th Century when it was designed by Jeronimo de la Gondara. It has a beautiful facade with a blind arcade and Isabelline mouldings. The interior was rebuilt in the early 20th Century after being damaged by fire.
