Alba de Tormes once had a palatial mansion with an Italian gallery. An earlier fortress was remodelled in the 15th Century into a fortified palace. French troops used it as a base during the War of Independence. The Duches of Alba restored the tower and it now houses a museum. Archaeological remains that were found during excavations can be seen on the first floor whilst on another floor are 17th Century frescoes by Cristobal Passin.
