The Balearic Museum of Natural Science occupies a 19th Century mansion and it contains both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Displays include a collection of Mallorcan rocks and fossils. There are also exhibits relating to past important botanists and geologists, including Archduke Ludwig Salvator, an Austrian who bought part of the west coast of Mallorca, and wrote several books about the Balearic Islands. There is also a botanic garden where Balearic plants are grown. These include mountain and dune species.
