The Museo del Banderlero is dedicated to the bandits of the Serrania de Ronda mountain range. Central Andalucia was once renowned for its outlaws. The mountain ranges are riddled with valleys, ravines and caves. During the 19th Century, some of the bandits who robbed the rich were folk heroes. The mountains were also a secret route used by smugglers carrying contraband from Gibraltar and, during the Civil War, a hiding place for guerillas. The museum offers an insight into this interesting aspect of Andalucian history.
