Basilica de la Macarena
Calle Bacquer, Seville 41002 - Spain

Map
The Basilica de la Macarena was built in the 1940s to contain the adored Virgin de la Esperanza Macarena. Now standing above the main altar of the church, the sculpture is thought to have been created in the mid 17th Century by Maria Luisa Roldan. The Virgin is the patron saint of bullfighters, and her statue is carried on a decorated float to the cathedral on Good Friday. In the Treasury Museum are vestments, the Virgin`s jewels and the elaborate Semana Santa silver platform on which the statue is carried.
