The Convento de los Carmelitas Descalzos is the final resting place of San Juan de la Cruz. A mystical poet, he was the co-founder with Saint Teresa of the Barefooted Order of the Carmelites. He founded the convent in the 16th Century and was a Prior here for a short time. His ornate mausoleum is inside a chapel of the church. Also of interest is a painting by Jose Garcia Hidalogo.
